An assembly of upholstered materials is subjected to a match-flame equivalent to examine its burning behavior.
A chair is constructed of the material to be tested. A burner is lit and applied to the chair along the joint between seat and back for 20 seconds. The progressive smoldering or flaming of the cover and interior material is observed. The damaged length is also measured.
If progressive smoldering or flaming is not observed within 1 hour after application of the cigarette and there is no smoldering of the internal material, the tested fabric passes the test.
